Our property on Lofton Creek is located north of the city of Prineville in Crook County, Oregon. Prineville has a population of 9,253 and Crook County has a population of approximately 16,000. Crook County is located in what is known as “Central Oregon” which is a tri-county area consisting of Crook, Deschutes and Jefferson Counties. The largest city in Central Oregon is Bend in Deschutes County with a population in excess of 80,000.

The area of Central Oregon is highly valued by both in state residents and out of state visitors as a highly desired recreational destination. People travel from long distance to participate in hunting, camping, boating and fishing opportunities on the local rivers and many lakes in the region. Mt. Bachelor in Deschutes County is approximately a 90 minute drive from Prineville and offers world class snow skiing opportunities. Recently, the city of Bend has become the new destination to out door mountain biking competition.

Central Oregon is primarily a recreation based economy. The era of logging is for the most part over. Farming and ranching continue in all three Central Oregon Counties with export crops of mint, grass hay and alfalfa. The 2011 opening of the Facebook Corporation data service center has established a new business foot print in Crook County. The company is said to have selected Crook County due to low energy costs and a favorable climate.

In addition, recent news revealed in February 2012 indicates that Apple Corporation has purchased a 160 acre parcel of land near Prineville for $5.6 million with future plans to construct a second local data center adding to the expansion of the high tech industry in Crook County.

From a healthcare standpoint the cities of Prineville, Madras, Redmond and Bend all offer hospital facilities with St. Charles Medical in Bend being by far the largest and most impressive medical facility in the region.

Central Oregon is also served by a new and expanded regional airport in Redmond known as Roberts Field. Flights leaving Redmond include such destinations as Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, Salt Lake City and Las Vegas. The local carriers include Delta, United and Alaska Airlines.
